Whoredom and wine and new wine take
away the heart. (Hosea 4:11)
It is fascinating that Hosea observed how immorality and
drunkenness took people’s hearts away from God. Today there is scientific
evidence for how pornography in particular has terrible effects on brain
chemistry. Also chemical addictions stunt real spirituality with counterfeit
sensations. Basically, both
practices rewire the brain so that it takes pleasure in sin and indulgence
instead of God’s commandments and doing righteousness.
Everyone has an inner soul hunger that yearns to be
satisfied and tries to find ways of filling that up. But the wrong things just make it worse. We have to turn to Christ instead.
Christ
promises, “But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall
never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of
water springing up into everlasting life.” (John 4:14)
When I turn to Christ and bring Him my empty soul, He fills
me as I contemplate His sacrifice. I can testify to that.
